Alber Elbaz (Hebrew: אלבר אלבז; 12 June 1961 – 24 April 2021) was an Israeli fashion designer. He was the creative director of Lanvin in Paris from 2001 until 2015,[1][2][3][4] after having done stints at a number of other fashion houses, including Geoffrey Beene, Guy Laroche, and Yves Saint Laurent.[5] He founded the Richemont-backed label AZ Factory in 2019.
Early life and education
[edit]Elbaz was born in Casablanca, Morocco, to a Jewish family.[6] Elbaz's mother, Algeria, was a painter and his father, Meyer, a hairdresser.[7] His family immigrated to Israel when Elbaz was eight months old[8] and he grew up in the city of Holon.[9] Elbaz's father died when Albert was a teenager and his mother became a cashier to support her four children—Alber, his brother and his two sisters.[7][10] Elbaz later enl

Alber Elbaz – the much-loved fashion designer famed for his exuberant imagination and personality and his 14-year old creative tenureship at Parisian couture house Lanvin – has died at the age of 59. Elbaz passed away at the American Hospital in Paris from Covid-19. His death was confirmed this morning by Richemont, Elbaz’s luxury group partner in AZ Factory, the new ready-to-wear fashion label which he launched in January 2021.
