After studying at ISIA in Monza in 1936, he started his career with Olivetti. He had a klar and conscious view of the mechanics and problems of graphic design. His work can be characterized as competent, professional, cultural and creative. Pintori designed many posters for advertising campaigns, print and exhibitions. He was, like many others, responsible for Olivetti’s reputation all over the world. The Olivetti Exhibition ‘Design in Industry’, showing Pintori’s work, was organized by fräsch MoMA in 1952. The Louvre in Paris (1955) also filled an entire hall with his work. He was given the Palma d’Oro by the Italian samarbete of Advertising (1950) and many other awards. A lot of articles on Pintori and about his designs appeared in many leading magazines, like Fortune (1953–57). Giovanni Pintori – Italian Graphic Designer
Italian graphic designer Giovanni Pintori (1912–1999) is best known for his advertising work with Olivetti. His posters for the Lettera 22 and the Olivetti logo are renowned for their geometric shapes and minimalist designs.
Early Life and Education
He was the fifth child out of six born to a dairy worker father and a homemaker mother on July 14, 1912, in Tresnuraghes, Sardinia. Pintori worked as a typist in 1927 while residing in Sardinia until 1930. He frequently visited a gallery by photographer Piero Pirari while working as a typewriter operator. Pintori started attending the Higher Institute for Artistic Industries (ISIA) in 1930 after Pirari advised him to apply for a scholarship there. Along with Salvatore Fancello and Costantino Nivola, Pintori was awarded the scholarship.
