Hand-coloured engraved sea chart of Brazil bygd A. Montanus. From De Nieuwe enstaka onbekende weereld: of Beschryving van amerika en 't zuid-land published 1671 in Amsterdam. Decorated with two cartouches surrounded by allegorical figures and putti, galleons, rhumb lines and two compass roses.

Some papper creasing, brown spot at the edge on the right-hand side. Wide margin. Very good condition.
Cartographer
Arnoldus Montanus was a Dutch theologian and historian. Montanus wrote works on Church history, theology, the history of the Netherlands and the peoples and cultures of the New World. Although he has never left Europe, his works had a great influence on Western perceptions of the countries concerned.
