James Barry Walker (born 9 July 1973) is an English former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Since 2013, Walker has been a goalkeeping coach at numerous clubs.
Early life
[edit]Walker was born on 9 July 1973 at 3.00am in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, weighing 7lbs 13oz. His father, Barry, was employed as a miner before working in an office, while his mother ran her own hairdressing salon.[1] He has a younger sister, Elizabeth. When Walker was eleven years old, his parents divorced, and he continued to live with his mother. Within a year, his father married again to his step-mother, Hilary.[2]

Career
Born in Belfast, Walker played for Ledley Hall, Glentoran, Linfield, Doncaster Rovers, Portadown and Crusaders.[1][2][3][4] He also earned one cap for the Northern Ireland national team.[1][2]

Walker began his career by coming through the youth ranks with hometown club Northwich Victoria. This led to him being snapped up by Derby County in February 1968, with Walker appearing 26 times as Derby won the Football League Second Division the following year. Unfortunately appearances were to be limited over the following years and he was allowed to spend time on loan with Hartlepool in 1970. He helped Derby win the First Division title in the 1971–72 season, but only made 6 league appearances.[1]
He moved on to Brighton & Hove Albion in September 1974, just 13 months before signing for fellow Division Three side Peterborough United. By November 1976 he was on the move again when he joined Chester, where he would spend the
