Tributes have continued to pour in for the first Executive Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, who died on Thursday at the age of 91.
He was a journalist who became governor of Lagos State from 1979 to 1983, and later Minister of Works under the Sani Abacha military regime (1993-98).
One of his sons, Deji Jakande, said the elder statesman passed on in the early hours of Thursday.

Jakande, popularly called “Baba Kekere”, left many indelible footprints as governor of the state especially in the area of infrastructure development focusing largely on the provision of low-cost houses for the people.
Jakande, born on July 29, 1929, served as the first governor of Lagos religiously implemented the four cardinal programmes of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) under which platform he contested.
